Citizen Fire Academy

Ever wonder what it is like to be a firefighter or paramedic? Join our Citizen Fire Academy and find out firsthand!

The Robertson Fire Protection District Citizen Fire Academy is a safe, hands-on experience where you can learn what it's like to be a firefighter/paramedic.

The dates for the next session of the Citizen Fire Academy have not been announced yet. If you are interested in participating, please complete the application, and you will be contacted when the dates are released.


Participants will learn about:

  • The history of the fire service and RFPD
  • The variety of services provided by, and training obtained by firefighter/paramedics including:
    • Fire suppression
    • Emergency medical care
    • Search and rescue
    • Hazardous materials response
    • Firefighter and paramedic gear, tools and equipment
    • Firetrucks, ambulances and other first response vehicles

Specific activities will include:

  • Trying on a full-set of firefighter gear including the SCBA (breathing pack)
  • Using the hydraulic rescue tools (jaws of life) to cut a vehicle
  • Putting out a live fire with a fire hose
  • Sitting in a fire truck and ambulance and trying the ladder if desired
  • Trying firefighter radios and communications tools

Participants will not be expected to participate in any tasks they do not want to.

The Citizen Fire Academy is not an accredited fire academy. This program is for information only and will not result in any certifications in firefighting, nor secure an opportunity for employment.
