Firefighter Jocquise Roberson is a people person.
“My favorite part about being a firefighter is helping and talking to our residents,” says Jocquise, who joined the Robertson Fire Protection District in July 2021. “They are always nice and very appreciative.”
For Jocquise and other RFPD firefighters, a typical 48-hour shift includes some sort of training and being ready to go on calls at any moment — but that doesn’t mean they don’t get time to rest.
“A lot of people are surprised when you tell them we work 48-hour shifts,” he says. “They think we stay awake the entire 48 hours, but many times we have a little bit of time to rest between responding to calls, training and taking care of the fire station and equipment during our shift.”
